The Wi-Fi Alliance maintains a list of certified devices, which numbered over 6,700 as of 9 March 2017. On the application layer, the stream is initiated and controlled via RTSP, RTP for the data transfer. On the transport layer, TCP or UDP are used. The connection is created via WPS and therefore is secured with WPA2. Adapters became available that may be plugged either into HDMI or USB ports, allowing devices without built-in Miracast support to connect via Miracast. Devices that are Miracast-certified can communicate with each other, regardless of manufacturer.
